Where People Smile & Plants Grow - Julien Project

Using gardening to enrich lives, www.thejulienproject.com located at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, is a year round community gardening project. In partnership with several community organizations, including St John Bosco, the Julien Project delivers sequential gardening activities and plant related workshops to exceptional people from diverse backgrounds. Teachers, educational assistants, volunteers, support workers and participants enjoy programs outdoors and indoors in the workshop at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre.

The work done through the Julien Project is valuable because participants have the opportunity to develop horticultural skills as well as a sense of building healthy community, through watching and learning the miracle of how vegetables, herbs and flowers grow. Individuals learn horticultural skills, critical thinking skills, sustainable gardening techniques, including recycling gardening initiatives as well as gain ownership of the garden and their projects while enjoying the natural world around them. Seasonally, participants from St Bosco attend weekly workshops. In addition, students have the opportunity to gain community services hours as volunteers for the Julien Project.
